Alexzandor is a young dinosaur. He is small for his kind but friendly and curious. He lives in the heart of the great Amazon jungle. Towering trees arch high above, their branches weaving a living roof of green. Bright flowers peek from fern fronds, and colorful birds chatter in the leaves. Every morning, Alexzandor steps into the warm, damp air and breathes in the sweet scent of moss and blossoms. He feels a happy thrill when he hears distant howls of monkeys or the rustle of tiny frogs in the undergrowth.
One soft sunrise, Alexzandor wanders along a winding path by a sparkling stream. The water runs over smooth stones and shines like liquid glass. Suddenly, something white and smooth gleams on a muddy bank. Curious, he steps closer and gently uncovers a large egg. It is pale cream with faint golden spots that glimmer in the sun.
Alexzandor’s heart beats fast with excitement. He carefully lifts the egg. It is surprisingly warm. He nudges it with his nose and hears a soft chirp. From beneath his arm, a tiny voice says, “Hello? I’m Egg!” Alexzandor startles but then smiles widely. He has never heard an egg speak, but it seems a playful, lonely little friend.
Egg bounces gently on the soft grass. It tells Alexzandor that it rolled away from its nest and got lost. Alexzandor tucks the egg under his arm. “Don’t worry,” he whispers. “I will help you find your home.” Egg giggles like a bell, thrilled to have a brave companion on the long Amazon trail.
Together they march deeper into the jungle. Giant leaves brush Alexzandor’s back, and vines hang like ropes around tree trunks. Bright butterflies swirl around Egg, making it flutter with joy. As they walk, Egg tells funny stories and tickles Alexzandor’s tail. Alexzandor laughs so hard he almost trips over a root.
Suddenly, the birds hush. The wind drops. From far ahead comes a deep, tremulous roar. The ground shakes beneath their feet. Alexzandor’s heart thuds in his chest. He slows and peers between the trunks. A huge dragon stands in a clearing. Its scales are dark green like jungle shadows. Its eyes glow golden as it scans the forest floor.
The dragon bellows, “Who dares to carry my egg?” Alexzandor’s throat goes dry. Egg trembles in his arms. The dragon spreads huge wings and stomps the ground. Bark and leaves crack under its claws. Alexzandor wants to run, but he thinks of Egg. He straightens his back and says, “I only want to help. This egg is scared and far from home.”
For a moment, the dragon snorts smoke and leans closer. Then it lets out a low rumble. It shifts its tail and watches Alexzandor with bright eyes. “If you lead the egg safely home,” the dragon says, “I will let you go.” Alexzandor feels a spark of courage. He nods fast and grips Egg more tightly.
The dragon turns and marches deeper into the jungle. Its heavy steps shake the earth. Alexzandor and Egg follow at a careful distance. They pass tangled vines, giant mushrooms, and shimmering pools filled with glowing fish. The dragon pauses before a fallen giant log blocking the path. It pushes with all its might, but the log won’t move.
Alexzandor remembers a story his mother told him. He looks for a narrow opening under a tangle of roots. “Follow me,” he whispers to Egg. They slip through the gap. On the other side, the path circles around the log and leads back toward the dragon.
The dragon sees them emerge and roars in surprise. It flaps its great wings and scatters birds into the sky. Alexzandor raises his voice. “Please, dragon, we only want to bring the egg home.” The dragon’s eyes soften. It steps aside and lowers its head, revealing a patch of mossy ground covered by broad leaves.
There, nestled in a bed of leaves, is a circle of stones carved with swirling patterns. Alexzandor realizes this must be the nest. Egg bubbles with glee. Alexzandor gently sets Egg in the center of the circle. He hums a soft, happy tune. The jungle seems to lean in to listen.
Egg begins to glow with golden light. Cracks appear in the shell. Alexzandor steps back. “Be patient,” he tells Egg lovingly. With a final crack, the shell splits open. A tiny dragon hatchling emerges, blinking bright eyes and stretching delicate wings. It peers at Alexzandor, then chirps delightedly.
The big dragon lowers one massive wing to shelter the hatchling. It nudges the little dragon gently. Then it turns to Alexzandor and rumbles, “Thank you. You are brave and kind.” Alexzandor feels a warm ache in his chest. He smiles shyly and bows his head.
With a mighty flap, the dragon and its baby lift into the air. They circle over Alexzandor once in a graceful arc before soaring off toward the highest canopy. Alexzandor watches until they disappear in the emerald leaves. He feels lighter than air. Egg’s laughter echoes in his mind.
As the sun sinks low, Alexzandor walks home through the glowing jungle. The stream glistens in fading light. Frogs call from the underbrush. Fireflies begin their dance among the ferns. Alexzandor feels proud and happy. He made a friend, showed courage, and helped a little dragon find its home.
At his cozy nest by the riverbank, Alexzandor settles down on soft moss. He recalls the day’s adventure. Tomorrow he will explore again, and maybe he will find other friends in the wild Amazon world. But for now, he breathes deeply, drifts to sleep under the whispering leaves, and dreams of dragon laughter echoing through the jungle.
