Martincito and the Missing Star Badge

Martincito is a tiny Superhero. He lives in a House. It is a cozy House with a soft rug and a small lamp.

Martincito wears a bright cape. He is brave, but also gentle. He likes to help.

Today, Martincito looks around. “Oh!” he says. “My little star badge is gone.”

His friend Hat is there too. Hat is a funny hat that can hop. Hat is curious and loyal.

Hat wiggles. “I will help!” Hat says. “Let’s look, look, look.”

They search in the bedroom. Under the pillow: no badge.
They search by the toy box. Inside: a ball, a block, a spoon. No badge.

Martincito kneels. “Maybe it fell,” he whispers.

Hat bounces to the hallway. “Tip-tap! Follow me!”

They go to the kitchen. The floor is shiny. Martincito steps slowly.

Then they hear a tiny “ting!”

On the table sits a clear, sparkly crystal. And beside it stands the Crystal Guardian. It is tall, quiet, and very shiny.

Martincito holds his cape close. “Hello,” he says.

The Crystal Guardian speaks in a soft, hard voice. “This House has rules. Shiny things must be kept safe.”

Hat leans forward. “We are safe friends,” Hat says. “We just want the star badge.”

The Crystal Guardian raises one crystal hand. “If you want it, you must show you can be careful.”

Martincito nods. “I can be careful. I can be kind.”

The Crystal Guardian points to three places.
“First: the sink. A drop is stuck. It goes drip… drip… and it makes me worry.”

Martincito walks to the sink. He turns the handle very gently. The drip stops.
Hat claps. “Good hands!”

“Second,” says the Crystal Guardian, “the rug corner is curled. Someone may trip.”

Martincito smooths the rug corner. He presses it flat. “Safe,” he says.
Hat hops on it. “No bump!”

“Third,” says the Crystal Guardian, “a toy car is on the stairs. That is not safe.”

Martincito picks up the toy car. He puts it in the toy box. “All done.”

The Crystal Guardian watches. Its shiny face softens.

“You did not rush,” it says. “You helped the House.”

Hat whispers to Martincito, “You are a real Superhero. Even slow can be strong.”

The Crystal Guardian opens its crystal palm. Inside is the lost star badge.

Martincito’s eyes grow wide. “My badge!”

He takes it and pins it on his shirt. It sparkles.

The Crystal Guardian adds one more thing: a small crystal sticker shaped like a star.
“A reward,” it says. “For being brave and careful.”

Hat giggles. “Two stars! Double shine!”

Martincito laughs. “Thank you. We will keep the House safe.”

They walk back to the cozy rug. Martincito sits, calm and proud.

He pats Hat. Hat snuggles close.

The lamp glows warm. The House feels happy.

Martincito taps his badge. “Superhero mission done,” he says.

And the stars on his chest go twinkle, twinkle, twinkle.
