Zariah is a girl who lives in a big Castle. She is small. She is kind. She is a little shy, but she is brave.
One morning, the King says, “Oh no. Our shiny crown gem is gone.”
The Queen says, “We need it for today.”
The Princess hugs her doll and whispers, “I feel scared.”
Zariah holds her own hands. “I can help,” she says softly.
The King kneels down. “Thank you, little helper.”
Zariah walks on tip-toes in the Castle halls. Tap, tap, tap.
She looks under a chair. “No gem.”
She looks behind a curtain. “No gem.”
She listens. Quiet… then, a tiny scrape.
From a dark corner comes a Monster.
It is big. It is lumpy. It has wide eyes.
“Grrrr,” it tries to say.
The Princess squeaks, “Eep!”
Zariah’s knees wiggle. She wants to hide.
But she remembers: brave can be small.
She takes a slow breath. In. Out.
She says, “Hello, Monster. Are you sad?”
The Monster blinks. “I… lost,” it mumbles.
The Queen steps close, gentle. “Lost?”
The Monster nods. “I wanted something shiny. I did not mean to scare.”
Zariah points to the Monster’s hands. A little sparkle peeks out.
“Is that the crown gem?” she asks.
The Monster opens its hand. There it is! Blue and bright.
The King says, “That is ours.”
The Monster’s shoulders droop. “I will give it back.”
Zariah smiles. “Thank you. You can have a different shiny.”
The Princess peeks from behind the Queen. “A different shiny?”
Zariah nods. “Yes. We can make one.”
They go to the Castle craft room.
Zariah shakes a box. Rattle, rattle.
They find beads, ribbon, and one gold button.
The Princess claps. “Button!”
Zariah threads the ribbon. The Queen ties a neat knot.
The King holds the beads so they do not roll away.
The Princess drops the gold button in the middle. Plop!
They make a necklace that shines.
Zariah gives it to the Monster.
“For you,” she says.
The Monster’s eyes go soft. “For me?”
“Yes,” says Zariah. “You can be our Castle friend.”
The Monster puts on the necklace.
It tries a new sound: “Grrr… thank you.”
Everyone giggles.
Zariah brings the crown gem to the King.
The King lifts it up. “Hooray!”
The Queen says, “You were brave and kind.”
The Princess hugs Zariah. “You saved the day.”
As a reward, the King opens a small chest.
Inside are three glitter stickers and a tiny star medal.
He places the medal on Zariah’s shirt.
“Castle Helper,” he says.
Zariah touches the medal. It feels cool and real.
She looks at the Monster, now sitting calmly.
The Castle is bright again.
And Zariah feels big inside, even though she is small.
