Joseph Dewayne is a small green dinosaur. He lives in a warm and bright jungle. He loves to play under tall palm trees. He wears a round red hat on his head. He shakes leaves and watches bright birds fly. He giggles when monkeys swing from branch to branch. One morning he wakes to find his hat missing. He looks under a pile of dry leaves. He looks near a smooth gray river stone. He looks behind a tall green fern plant. He taps his foot and feels a little sad. He decides to ask for help from a friend. He walks along a soft mossy path. He hums a happy song as he searches. He spots a tall Giant who stands by a tree. The Giant is gentle and kind and very large. Joseph calls softly, Hello, my giant friend. The Giant bends down and offers a warm smile. I can help, he says in a deep voice. Joseph feels safe and thankful for the Giant. The two search together under logs and stones. They look inside a hollow tree trunk. They look near a patch of bright red flowers. They look beside a fallen coconut shell. The sun shines warm on the green leaves. Joseph wipes a tear that falls down his cheek. The Giant pats his back with a big hand. The Giant says, Do not worry, little friend. They walk past a bubbling brook and green grass. They listen for rustling sounds in the bushes. A gentle breeze stirs dry leaves on the ground. Suddenly a howl echoes through the tall trees. A gray Wolf steps out from behind a bush. The Wolf has sharp teeth and bright eyes. Joseph feels a quick flutter of fear inside. The Giant stands tall to protect Joseph. The Wolf growls softly and circles them around. Joseph holds the Giant’s big leg tight. The Giant says, We want no trouble, Wolf. The Wolf stops and looks at Joseph’s sad eyes. The Wolf tilts his head and sniffs the air. Then the Wolf speaks in a low kind voice. I saw a red hat near the big creek. The Wolf points his nose toward a path. Joseph smiles with hope and jumps up with joy. Thank you, Mr. Wolf, he says with a grin. The Wolf nods his head and steps aside. The Giant and Joseph hurry toward the creek. They reach a shiny creek with clear cool water. Joseph spots his red hat resting on a rock. He runs and picks up the hat with joy. He places it back upon his small green head. He cheers, I found it, thank you, dear friends. The Giant laughs and pats Joseph’s back softly. The Wolf howls once more and walks away smiling. Joseph hugs the Giant’s big knee with delight. He waves goodbye to the Wolf with a grin. He skips back home under warm golden sunlight. He feels happy and brave and very proud. He sleeps that night with his red hat safe.
