Leianna and the Missing Heart Pearl

Kids stories

When the Radiant Palace loses its glow, Leianna the beautiful, a shy mermaid, teams up with Miro the Frost Mage to find the missing Heart Pearl—before a dragon keeps it forever.
Leianna and the Missing Heart Pearl

Leianna the beautiful was a mermaid who lived near the Radiant Palace. The palace stood where sea met sky, all shiny and bright. Its windows winked like little suns.

Leianna loved to sing. Her voice was soft, like bubbles. But she was also a little shy. When other sea-folk listened, she hid behind coral and whispered, “Maybe later.”

One morning, something was wrong.
The Radiant Palace did not glow.
The halls looked dull, like someone had covered them with gray sand.

Leianna swam closer. “Oh no,” she said. “Where did the sparkle go?”

A cool voice answered from a shadowy arch.
“I know what happened,” said a Frost Mage.

He floated above the water in a cloak of misty ice. His eyes were kind, but careful. He carried a staff with a tiny snowflake on top.

Leianna blinked. “A Frost Mage? Down here?”

The Frost Mage bowed. “I am Miro. I came because the palace called for help. The Heart Pearl is missing.”

“The Heart Pearl?” Leianna asked.

Miro nodded. “It is the pearl that makes the palace shine. Without it, the Radiant Palace forgets its light.”

Leianna put a hand on her chest. “We have to find it.”

Miro’s staff made a gentle chime. “Yes. But we must be quick. A Dragon has been seen near the outer reefs.”

Leianna’s tail gave a small wobble. “A dragon? Like… big teeth?”

“Big teeth,” Miro said. “And big sneezes. Dragons sometimes sneeze when they smell salty sea air.”

Leianna giggled, then stopped. “Still scary.”

Miro’s voice softened. “You can be scared and still swim forward.”

So they went.

They swam through the palace gardens, where sea-flowers curled like ribbons. They passed tall pillars with shells carved into them. Every step—well, every fin-flip—made tiny echoes in the quiet water.

In the middle hall they found something: a trail.
Not footprints.
Not fins.
Little glittery scales.

Leianna touched one. “Warm.”

Miro frowned. “Dragon scale dust.”

They followed the trail past a door shaped like a star. It was half open, creaking.
Inside was the Mirror Pool, a round room with smooth water that showed your face like a picture.

But today the Mirror Pool showed… nothing.
Just a cloudy blur.

Leianna whispered, “It looks sleepy.”

Miro tapped his staff lightly. “A fog spell. Someone wants to hide.”

Leianna tried to be brave. She lifted her chin. “Hello? We only want the Heart Pearl back!”

The fog swirled.
A low voice rumbled, “Mine.”

The Dragon rose from behind a broken statue. His body was long and shiny, like a river of red-gold. His eyes were bright like coins. He held the Heart Pearl in one claw.

Leianna’s heart thumped fast.
The Heart Pearl pulsed softly, like a tiny moon.

The Dragon sniffed. “The palace is too bright. It hurts my eyes. I took the shiny thing. Now it is quiet.”

Leianna wanted to hide behind Miro. But she remembered what he said.
Scared… and still forward.

She swam a little closer. “Dragon,” she said kindly, “you didn’t mean to be mean. But the palace needs the Heart Pearl. It is called Radiant Palace because it shines for everyone.”

The Dragon curled his tail. “Everyone is not me.”

Miro spoke next. His voice was calm, like snow falling. “If light hurts you, we can help. You do not need to steal.”

The Dragon blinked, surprised. “Help me?”

Leianna nodded fast. “Yes! We can make softer light. Like bedtime light.”

The Dragon’s nostrils flared. “Bedtime light?”

Leianna smiled. “A gentle glow. Not a blinding sparkle.”

The Dragon looked at the Heart Pearl. “It is pretty. It makes my cave look like treasure.”

Leianna thought hard. Preschool thoughts can be big.
She said, “What if you get treasure that is yours… and the palace gets its pearl back?”

The Dragon’s eyes narrowed. “How?”

Miro lifted his staff. “I can shape ice into many things. Leianna can sing to wake sleeping magic. Together we can make a gift.”

Leianna took a deep breath. Singing in front of a dragon felt like singing in front of a storm.
But she began.
Her song was slow, warm, and brave.
The notes swam through the fog like tiny lantern fish.

The Mirror Pool trembled.
The cloudy blur cleared.
The water began to reflect again.

Miro whispered a frost spell. “Soft snow, bright glow.”
Ice grew in the air, not sharp, but smooth like glass.
It formed a big shell-shaped lamp.

Leianna kept singing. The lamp caught her song and held it, like holding a hug.
The lamp began to glow—gentle, calm, and cozy.

The Dragon stared. “That light… does not hurt.”

Leianna stopped singing, cheeks warm. “It’s for you. A Softshine Shell Lamp.”

The Dragon held the lamp near his face. He sighed. It sounded like a windy flute.

Miro said, “Now you can have light without stealing the Heart Pearl.”

The Dragon looked from the lamp to the pearl.
He hesitated.
Then his claw opened.

“Take it,” he said gruffly. “But… can I keep the lamp?”

Leianna beamed. “Yes! It is your treasure.”

The Dragon scratched his chin. “I also want… one more thing.”

Leianna froze. “What?”

The Dragon said, “Teach me that song. The one that clears fog.”

Miro chuckled. “A dragon who wants music. That is new.”

Leianna nodded. “I can teach you a small part. But you have to be gentle.”

The Dragon lowered his head. “Gentle. I can try.”

They swam back to the center hall.
Leianna placed the Heart Pearl in its cradle, a flower of silver coral.

Instantly, the Radiant Palace woke up.
Light ran along the walls like happy waves.
The windows winked again.

Sea-folk peeked out from behind pillars.
One little crab clapped its claws. Click-click!

Leianna felt her shyness melt like ice in sunlight.
Miro bowed to her. “You were brave. And kind.”

Leianna whispered, “I was trembling the whole time.”

Miro nodded. “Bravery can tremble.”

A palace keeper swam forward with a velvet pouch. “Leianna the beautiful,” she said, “for saving our Heart Pearl, we give you a reward from the Radiant Vault.”

Leianna’s eyes widened. “A reward?”

The keeper opened the pouch.
Inside was a necklace of tiny star gems that glowed in seven colors.

Miro whistled softly. “That is rare.”

Leianna touched it. The gems lit up, one by one, like a rainbow learning to dance.

The keeper smiled. “It is the Songkeeper Necklace. When you sing, it helps your voice carry far and clear.”

Leianna gasped. “So I can sing without hiding?”

“Yes,” said the keeper.

From the doorway, the Dragon peeked in, holding his Softshine Shell Lamp. He looked embarrassed, like a big lizard caught being polite.

Leianna waved. “Hi, Dragon.”

He rumbled, “Hello.” Then, very quietly, “Thank you.”

Miro gave him a tiny nod.

That evening, the Radiant Palace glowed softly—bright for the halls, gentle near the water where the Dragon waited.
Leianna wore her new necklace.

She sang.
Her voice floated through every room, through every window, out into the sea.

The palace sparkled.
The Dragon’s lamp glowed.
And Leianna the beautiful felt something new in her chest.
Not just shyness.
A brave, shining song.
