Wizard and the Bright Balloon Show

Kids stories

Wizard the shy Magician prepares a sparkling show at the Charms Amphitheater with help from a Cloud Shepherd, but Fantom steals the colors. Together they restore the colors, make a quiet nook for Fantom, and end with a treasure shower of star stickers.
Wizard and the Bright Balloon Show

Wizard the Magician lived near the Charms Amphitheater, a big round place with stone seats like steps. In the middle was a stage shaped like a moon. Every morning, Wizard came early with his hat and his wand.

Wizard was kind and careful. He loved making tiny magic, like turning pebbles into buttons, or making a ribbon dance in the air. But he was also a little shy. When many eyes looked at him, his knees felt wiggly.

Today was a special day. The Amphitheater was getting ready for the Bright Balloon Show. The show needed color and music. Wizard whispered, “I can do this. I can.”

High above, soft clouds drifted by like sleepy sheep. A Cloud Shepherd floated along with them. The Cloud Shepherd wore a coat made of mist and carried a crook shaped like a hook of wind.

“Hello down there!” called the Cloud Shepherd.

Wizard waved. “Hello! I’m Wizard.”

“I know,” said the Cloud Shepherd with a grin. “I shepherd clouds. I keep them from bumping into each other. Want a little help today?”

Wizard nodded. “Yes, please. I need the Amphitheater to sparkle.”

Just then, a chilly hush rolled over the stone seats. The bright banners around the stage went pale, like they forgot how to be red and blue. The lanterns dimmed. Even the chalk stars drawn on the stage looked tired.

Wizard gulped. “That’s… not my doing.”

A whisper slid across the air: “Faaantom…”

From behind a pillar drifted Fantom, the antagonist. Fantom looked like a shadow wearing a cape. His voice sounded like a door creaking.

“I like it quiet,” Fantom said. “No bright show. No laughing. Only hush.”

The Cloud Shepherd frowned. “Hey! Clouds can be soft, but they are not mean.”

Wizard tried to be brave. “Why are you taking the colors?”

Fantom swirled. “Colors tickle my ears. And music makes my shadow shake.”

Wizard’s heart thumped. He wanted to hide behind the stage. But he saw the empty seats. Soon they would be filled with preschool children holding snacks and bouncing feet. They deserved a happy show.

Wizard whispered to himself, “Small magic first. Then bigger.”

He pointed his wand at a banner. “Color, come back!”

A tiny spark popped out. It was only the size of a pea. It made one little dot of red.

Fantom laughed. “That is all?”

Wizard felt his cheeks warm. The Cloud Shepherd floated lower and spoke gently. “Wizard, your magic is like a cloud. It grows when you feed it. Not with fear. With teamwork.”

“Teamwork?” Wizard asked.

“Yes,” said the Cloud Shepherd. “I can bring sky color. You can shape it. Together we can restore colors.”

Wizard took a deep breath. “Okay. Let’s do it.”

They stepped onto the moon-shaped stage. Fantom hovered at the edge, watching.

The Cloud Shepherd lifted the wind crook. “Clouds, gather!”

Above the Amphitheater, three clouds slid into place: one puffy, one thin, and one curly like a wig.

Wizard blinked. “That curly one looks funny.”

“It’s a giggle cloud,” said the Cloud Shepherd. “It can’t help it.”

Even Wizard smiled a little.

The Cloud Shepherd whispered to the clouds, and the clouds began to drip tiny beads of sky light. The beads floated down like slow bubbles.

Wizard held out his wand like a spoon. “I will catch them!”

He swished and swirled. The beads became bright paint in the air: blue, gold, green.

But Fantom hissed and blew a cold breath. The paint started to turn gray.

Wizard’s hands shook. “It’s fading!”

The Cloud Shepherd called, “Don’t fight the cold with fear. Warm it with a happy sound!”

Wizard thought of the children clapping. He tried something new. He tapped his wand on the stage and sang a very simple tune:

“Tap tap, clap clap,
Colors, please come back!”

The giggle cloud burst into a soft “pffft!” like a silly trumpet.

Wizard giggled too. The sound made his chest feel warm.

The Cloud Shepherd laughed. “Yes! That’s it!”

Together they made a rhythm. The Cloud Shepherd swayed the clouds like dancers. Wizard tapped and sang. Each tap made a stripe of color appear on the banners: red as apples, blue as ponds, yellow as butter.

Fantom covered his ears. “Stop! Too bright!”

Wizard stopped singing for a second. He did not want to hurt anyone, even Fantom.

He said softly, “Fantom, you can stand in the shade. You don’t have to steal the colors.”

Fantom peeked through his shadowy fingers. “Shade?”

The Cloud Shepherd nodded. “We can make you a cozy shadow seat. A special spot.”

Wizard had an idea. A brave idea.

He pointed his wand at a corner behind a tall pillar. “A Little Quiet Nook!”

A curtain of gentle gray appeared there, like a soft blanket of shadow. It was not scary. It was calm.

Fantom drifted closer, curious. “It won’t… sparkle?”

“No,” said Wizard. “It will be quiet. Like a whisper. You can rest there when the show is loud.”

Fantom’s cape fluttered. “I do get tired from shaking.”

“Then rest,” said the Cloud Shepherd.

Fantom slipped into the Quiet Nook. His edges stopped wiggling. The cold air faded.

At once, the Amphitheater brightened fully. The lanterns glowed. The chalk stars shone like tiny candies on the stage.

Wizard sighed in relief. “We did it!”

“Not finished,” said the Cloud Shepherd, eyes twinkling. “A show needs a finale.”

Wizard swallowed. “A finale means everyone looks at me.”

The Cloud Shepherd floated closer. “Yes. But you will not be alone.”

They practiced. Wizard made balloon shapes from colored light: a rabbit, a fish, a smiling sun. The Cloud Shepherd guided the clouds to make soft spotlights.

Soon, children arrived, chattering like sparrows. They sat on the stone steps, swinging their legs.

Wizard stood center stage. His knees wiggled.

A small child called, “Hi, Wizard!”

Wizard blinked. “Hi!” he called back. The word felt nice in his mouth.

The Cloud Shepherd announced, “Welcome to the Bright Balloon Show!”

Wizard lifted his wand. “Tap tap, clap clap…”

The children clapped with him. Clap clap! Clap clap!

Colors bloomed in the air. Balloons of light floated up, bobbing. The giggle cloud made funny puffs in time with the claps, and children laughed.

From the Quiet Nook, Fantom watched. He was not stealing now. He looked calmer, like a shadow taking a nap.

At the end, Wizard made one last balloon: a huge star, bright and gentle. It hovered above the stage and slowly turned into a shower of tiny star stickers.

The stickers floated down into the children’s hands. They stuck them on shirts, on hats, even on noses.

A child squealed, “I got three!”

Wizard smiled wide. “You can keep them. They are real.”

The Cloud Shepherd nodded. “A treasure from the sky.”

After the show, the Amphitheater sparkled, and Wizard’s shyness felt smaller.

The Cloud Shepherd handed Wizard a small gift: a clear bottle with a swirl of blue inside. “A pocket of sky color,” the Cloud Shepherd said. “For the next time you feel nervous. Shake it, and remember today.”

Wizard held the bottle carefully. It felt cool and brave in his hand.

He looked toward the Quiet Nook. “Thank you for not freezing the show, Fantom.”

Fantom’s voice floated out, softer now. “Thank you for giving me a place to be.”

Wizard and the Cloud Shepherd waved goodbye to the children. The sun dipped low. The clouds drifted home, safely shepherded.

And Wizard, the Magician of the Charms Amphitheater, had two treasures: a bottle of sky color, and a new skill—being brave with friends nearby.
